material
- exudates = material coming from a wound which is rich in
protein, cells and solid material

- lymph nodes (LN) = series of them throughout the body

- allergy = overreaction by the body to a particular
antigen
- anaphylaxix = severe response to a foreign substance
which develops acutely.
- autoimmune disease = disorder in which the body makes
antibodies against itself.
- immunosuppression = decrease in resistance to disease
- lymphadenitis = inflammation of the LN
- splenomegaly = enlarged spleen
- tonsillectomy = surgical removal of the tonsils
- tonsillitis = inflammation of the tonsils
- splenectomy = surgical removal of the spleen
- lymphadenopathy = disease of the LN
- Oncology……study of tumors
- neoplasm = abnormal new growth of tissues
- benign = not malignant
- malignant = cancerous
- pedunculated = tumor has a stalk (or peduncle)
- well-circumscribed = mass is well defined
- invasive = no well defined borders
- metastasis = pathogenic growth distant from primary
disease (often lungs)
- carcinoma = malignant growth of epithelial cells
- sarcoma = malignant growth of connective tissue
- carcinogen = substance that causes cancer
- adenocarcinoma = malignant growth of epithelial gland

- lymphoma = neoplasm composed of lymph tissue
- mast cell tumor = malignant growth of mast cells in the
skin……which release histamine
- myeloma = malignant neoplasm of bone marrow
- osteosarcoma = malignant neoplasm of bone
- squamous cell carcinoma = malignant tumor of squamous
cell epithelial tissue…..skin cancer
